St Matthew Passion – 6pm
The whole Holy Trinity musical community come together to perform Bach’s monumental St Matthew Passion - our professional singers, choral scholars, Holy Trinity evensong choir, Songs and Soup, ConQordia, members of the congregation and children. All accompanied by a brilliant group of professional baroque instrumentalists from groups such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Hailed by Betjeman as the Arts and Crafts cathedral, Holy Trinity Sloane Square provides the magnificent backdrop for the eclectic repertoire which kicks off the 40th anniversary season of the renowned Crouch End Festival Chorus.
This concert of a cappella works features Tallis’s glorious 40-part motet Spem in alium, the ethereal, lyrical Mass in G minor by Vaughan Williams, and Allegri’s mesmerising Miserere. The concert is completed by Rheinberger’s gentle lullaby Abendlied, and three pieces from the recently released Oxford Book of Choral Music by Black Composers.
