Battersea Choral Society Christmas Concert with Carols for All – 7:30pm
We are delighted to invite you to our Carol Concert at Holy Trinity Sloane Square.
Along with our favourite Christmas carols and festive readings there will be joyful music including Gerald Finzi In Terra Pax and Thomas Hewitt-Jones The Shepherds’ Tale. BCS commissioned the latter in 2018 to mark our 20th anniversary. We are delighted to sing it again this year whilst we celebrate 25 years of the choir’s existence.
Our soloists for the evening will be: Fflur Wyn, soprano and Michael Lafferty, baritone. They will join in some of the carols and treat us to a couple of traditional delights.
This year, music4children will benefit from the retiring collection.
The charity, music4children, deliver a wide range of projects in the UK and in Nepal: These projects include Arts, Music, Sports and activities that grab the imagination and empower young people to be the best versions of themselves.

Battersea Choral Society – Mendelssohn Hymn of Praise – 7:30pm
Hymn of Praise (Lobgesang, Op. 52) is a large-scale choral symphony composed in 1840 by Mendelssohn to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg. It is one of Mendelssohn’s most ambitious choral works which helped to revive interest in large, sacred choral music in the 19th century. Interestingly, he was inspired partly by Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Fit for midsummer, this piece is a bright, triumphant and deeply spiritual choral work.

Join Lewisham Choral Society – Rütti Requiem – 7:30pm
Join Lewisham Choral Society for the London premiere of Swiss composer Carl Rütti’s Requiem in the presence of the composer. This striking work was commissioned and premiered in Winchester in 2008 by the Bach Choir, who requested the same orchestration as for the Fauré Requiem: strings, harp and organ. The result was a haunting seven-movement work for double choir with soprano and baritone soloists.
