Eltham Choral Society is delighted to be joining the Holy Trinity Sloane Square Consort and orchestra, in a performance of Mendelssohn’s glorious oratorio ‘Elijah’.

The choir of around 100 voices will be joined by four highly talented soloists; Daisy Livesey,soprano, Hera Protopapas, mezzo soprano, Harry Ross, tenor and Alex Bower Brown, bass,and an orchestra capably led by violinist Benedict Wong.
Elijah tells the story, with dramatic music, of God’s battle, via Elijah the prophet, with King Ahab, Queen Jezebel and the worship of their false god, Baal. Droughts, fires, sacrifices, tempests and earthquakes ensue until God is able to restore calm.
Established well over 100 years ago, Eltham Choral Society is a mixed choir of some 80 voices, affiliated to Making Music and based in Eltham, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The choir has a long and distinguished history of choral singing in south east London and beyond. The Holy Trinity Consort is a highly talented group of singers drawn from Holy Trinity’s several choirs under the baton of their Director of Music, Max Barley who is also
Director of Music at Eltham Choral Society.

The performance will take place at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square SW1X 9BZ, on Saturday 13 April 2024 at 7.30.pm, under the direction of Max Barley, Musical Director at Holy Trinity Sloane Square and of Eltham Choral Society. Crouch End Festival Chorus – 7:30pm

Hailed by Betjeman as the Arts and Crafts cathedral, Holy Trinity Sloane Square provides the magnificent backdrop for the eclectic repertoire which kicks off the 40th anniversary season of the renowned Crouch End Festival Chorus.

This concert of a cappella works features Tallis’s glorious 40-part motet Spem in alium, the ethereal, lyrical Mass in G minor by Vaughan Williams, and Allegri’s mesmerising Miserere. The concert is completed by Rheinberger’s gentle lullaby Abendlied, and three pieces from the recently released Oxford Book of Choral Music by Black Composers.
