The London Chorus performs Elgar’s The Music Makers – 7:30pm

Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Holy Trinity, Sloane Square at 7.30pm on Thursday 13 March 2025, The London Chorus will be performing Elgar’s The Music Makers together with the ethereal Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré.

This is a rare performance of The Music Makers so it’s a great opportunity to hear Elgar’s last major choral piece. Composed in 1912, it’s a setting of a poem by Arthur O’Shaugnessy. In it, Elgar quotes themes from his own works including the violin concerto, the two symphonies and most notably Nimrod from the Enigma Variations.

The concert also includes a performance of John Rand’s 3rd Piano Concerto. John has composed seven piano concertos as well as film music. This piece was written in 2003 and was recently revised. This first performance of the revised version will be brought to life by soloist, Alan Brown. Alan is in great demand and has a repertoire of over forty-five concertos, performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players among others.

Another of our favourite soloists, mezzo soprano Emily Gray, will be joining the choir for The Music Makers. Emily has performed as a soloist at the Royal Albert Hall, St. Paul’s, Kings Place, and the Purcell Room as well as giving frequent live performances on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.

Tickets £18, £28, £35. Book online at https://londonchorus.org.uk/event/elgar-the-music-makers/
